4 easy yoga poses for beginners

  1. Majariasana/ Cat-Cow pose: A great asana to perform early in the morning. It is known to open up your whole spine and keeping backache away. To perform this asana simply get down on all fours like a cat or cow. Gradually, look up the ceiling and drop your back towards the ground while you inhale. After that, slowly gaze down towards your belly button, and arch your spine up just like a cat and exhale. Performing this asana for 2-3 minutes a day is good enough for a healthy spine.
  2. Padahastasana/ Standing forward bend: It literally means feet to hand pose. Simply stand upright and let your feet touch each other. Keeping your legs straight bend towards the floor and try to touch the floor with your fingers. Ensure you exhale and keep your arms stretched in this asana. Now slowly revert to the original position. Padahastasana is great for increasing flexibility.
  3. Adho Mukha Svanasana/ Downward facing dog: If you have ever seen a dog stretch, you know how to perform this asana. For this position, start on all fours and try to create a 'V' with your arms and legs. It is easier said than done, but with some practice you will be able to master this asana. Throughout this asana ensure that your palm and sole are balancing your entire weight while they are touching the floor. Adho Mukha Svanasana is extremely energizing and refreshing.
  4. Utkatasana/ Chair pose: This asana seems easy till you actually perform it. All you need to do is bend your knees as if you are sitting on a chair and raise your hands towards the roof. The chair pose increases stability, strength, and flexibility.
